Madhubani Handpainting on Tussar Silk: A Tale of Patience and Persistence

Here's a little something about Reena (name changed for keeping identity safe) one of the advocates of Dancing Looms. Reena is an avid saree collector, and she always has an eye for unique and beautiful pieces. She loves exploring different markets and online stores, looking for that one-of-a-kind saree that would stand out from the rest.

For a long time, Reena has been looking for a unique saree that she had once spotted on someone at a diwali party. One day, she spots a similar saree online: a beautiful tussar saree with a Madhubani hand painting on it. The painting is intricate and detailed, and Reena is immediately captivated by it. She knows that this is the saree she has been searching for.

Excitedly, she places an order for the saree with Dancing Looms, the online saree store.  The saree is woven and hand-painted especially for her, using rich organic dyes. It takes around twenty to twenty five days to get it ready and reach her from the day she books her order.  Reena has been eagerly and patiently awaiting the saree to arrive. When it does, she can't wait to try it on. As she drapes the saree around her, she feels the luxurious texture of the tussar silk and admires the beautiful painting on it. It is a happy experience as she looks forward to draping it at the next social gathering.

Reena is one of the many patrons and advocates of Dancing Looms who are our style gurus in every sense. Here's a representational picture depicting a similar Tussar Silk saree with handpainted Madhubani art.

The Material: Tussar silk saris are one of the most popular types of silk saris in India, known for their rich texture, natural sheen, and durability.

The Art: One of the popular forms of art that is often seen on tussar silk saris is Madhubani painting. Madhubani painting is a traditional art form that originated in the Mithila region of Bihar, India. The paintings are characterized by their vibrant colors, geometric patterns, and nature-inspired motifs. Traditionally, Madhubani paintings were done on walls, floors, or pots, but over the years, the art has been adapted to various mediums, including tussar silk saris.

Madhubani paintings on tussar silk saris are done by skilled artisans using natural dyes and colors. The paintings are usually inspired by nature and depict motifs such as flowers, birds, animals, and geometric shapes. The colors used in Madhubani paintings are usually derived from natural sources such as turmeric, indigo, and neem leaves, which lend a unique character to the paintings.

Authenticity: Tussar silk saris with Madhubani paintings from Dancing Looms are popular for their unique combination of traditional art and fine craftsmanship. These sarees come with Silk Mark Certification for authenticity. The saris are not only beautiful but also have a cultural and historical significance. They are perfect for special occasions such as weddings, festivals, and religious ceremonies. They are also a great way to showcase the rich cultural heritage of India and support local artisans.

The tussar silk saris with Madhubani paintings are a perfect blend of traditional art and contemporary fashion. These saris are not only beautiful and are a testament to the skill and creativity of the artisans who create them and serve as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of India.

So which one is your favorite out of the ones shown above?

"Assam Mercerised Cotton Sarees: A Timeless Piece of Assamese Heritage"

Assam Mercerised Cotton sarees are a type of saree that is popular in the northeastern state of Assam in India. These sarees are made from cotton that has been mercerized, which is a process that makes the cotton stronger, smoother, and more lustrous. The process of mercerization involves treating the cotton fibers with a caustic soda solution, which makes them swell and increases their strength. The cotton is then washed, neutralized, and dried. This process gives the cotton a silk-like sheen and enhances its ability to absorb dyes. Dancing Looms brings Assam Mercerised Cotton sarees  known for their vibrant colors and intricate designs. They are typically adorned with traditional Assamese tribal motifs such as the jaapi (a conical hat worn by Assamese farmers), the gamusa (a traditional Assamese towel), and the rhino (the state animal of Assam). The sarees are woven on a traditional handloom by skilled artisans. The process of weaving a saree can
